Once content is created, there are four different message types that can be created
for a campaign. These message types provide the content to the customers targeted by the
campaign.
Main Message
Main messages are the primary message created for campaigns. These message types are
associated to specific customer segments and provide content that is prepared
specifically for that segment.
For example, if content has been created specifically for customers who reside in the
state of California, a main message using the California-specific content would be
sent to a segment comprised entirely of California residents.
Note: Choosing All
Segments will send the message to all customers in your segmentation
model.
Follow-Up Messages
Follow-up messages are messages that are sent to customers after they have been sent
a main message or trial message. Follow-up messages are defined with a "parent
message" and a "triggering event".
For example, you can configure a follow-up message that will send a message to
customers who click on a 'More Info' link in a monthly newsletter. In this case, the
parent message is the monthly newsletter, and the triggering event is the customer
clicking on the 'More Info' link.
Note: Follow-up messages can be created for Subscribe campaigns. They cannot be
created for Unsubscribe campaigns.
Trial Messages
Trial messages are used to test the campaign message content on a small, randomly
selected subset of one segment prior to sending out the main message to the
remaining customers in that segment. In this way, the trial customers are able to
validate the effectiveness of the campaign message content prior to sending the
message out to all of the remaining customers in the segment. You are able to send
trial messages to seed lists in order to validate the layout and content of
messages.
Note: Trial messages can only be sent to one-time (i.e. normal)
campaigns.
Note: If you associate the message to All Segments, the message is sent to all
customers in the entire segmentation model.
Automated Main Messages
Automated main messages are also considered to be the primary main message for a
campaign. The Automated Main Messages feature automatically selects the best message
from the existing trial messages in a campaign.
Automated main messages are created following one or more trial messages. Different
from a main message which is user created, the subject and content of an automated
main message is picked up automatically from the content of successful trial
messages.
Automated main messages can be configured to gather content in the following
manners:
- Subject line and content from a single, successful trial message
- Subject line from the trial message with the most opened emails and the
content from another trial message with the most message clicks
Automated main messages are also able to be scheduled to be launched:
- On a specific date and time
- When a trial message activity meets a particular threshold (e.g. when the
number of message clicks is greater than 10,000)
Note: Connect ensures customers do not receive a trial or main message from the same
campaign. Customers who receive a trial message from a campaign will not receive
a main message from the same campaign. Be sure to target trial messages to small
groups of customers.
Note: You can only create trial messages for one-time campaigns, not for recurring
or externally triggered campaigns.
