Create and Edit Attributes

If you need more attribute options, you can add as many as you need.

Add New Attribute

Follow these directions to add a new attribute.
  1. From the Customers tab Customer Attribute screen, click Commands > New Attribute. The Enter Attribute with ID: XXX screen appears. XXX is the system applied attribute number.

  2. In the Attribute Name field, type a unique and descriptive name for the attribute.
Note: Attribute names are case-sensitive. Be careful not to define the same attribute twice. For example, if you define an attribute as both male and Male, Connect will consider them as two separate attributes.
  3. In the Attribute Data Type field, select an option from the drop-down list. Options include the following:
    • Date
    • Number
    • String
    • Single Character
  4. In the Bounded field, click the checkbox to indicate that the attribute is bounded. The Bounded Values field appears.
    • Bounded - An attribute is bounded if the range of acceptable values is a specific list. For example, gender is bounded, male and female. Creating bounded values provides the user with pre-defined values from which to choose and provides an easier user interface for the Marketing Manager when defining audience and segmentation models.
    • Unbounded - A field is unbounded if you are free to enter any value that satisfies the objective of that field. For example, the attribute birthdate enables you to enter any value such as December 19, 1955.
  5. In the Bounded Values field, type the appropriate values for the attribute.
  6. In the Modify database metadata for attribute field, click the check box if you want to create an extended attribute. The fields below are activated.
  7. In the Attribute Type field, select an option from the drop-down list. Options include the following:
    • Row per attribute. (This is similar to the normal attribute tables.)
    • Column per attribute.
  8. In the Extended Attribute Table Name, type a name for the new table. Keep in mind the following:
    • Table names are case sensitive.
    • Tables must be accessible in the Connect database.
    • No spaces in the table name. Separate words with an underscore (_) or with a dash (-).
  9. Continue defining the Extended Attribute Field Name, Extended Attribute Table Join Field Name, Customer Table Join Field, Attribute Join Column, and Attribute Join Value.
  10. Click the Save button to save the attributes.
