We are excited to share our new RESTful Web Service APIs, which provide programmatic access to data visible in our CONNECT User Interface. Please find the reference documents in the CONNECT User Guide located in the online help section of brickstreetsoftware.com.
Brick Street’s development team designed its web services as a Java Web Application: brickstapi.war. The brickstapi.war web application can deploy on the CONNECT API server, separately on a single server, or on a cluster of servers. The API calls generally consume and return JSON objects.
What is an API?
An Application Program Interface (API) is a set of routine protocols and tools that act as building blocks to develop software applications for desktop and operating system environments. With the growth of cloud computing, web service software enables communication between two electronic devices over the web, enabling the application to be continuously running. In fact, the Web Service APIs interface with each other, not users, when sharing business logic and data. This enables web service APIs to link into the graphical user interface and offer custom functionality to specific users.
What are the benefits of using APIs?
Web Developers
Web service’s distributed computing model allows for greater customization and flexibility than standard widget tools. The combination of advanced functionality and input from multiple data warehouses empowers developers to write complex software programs to meet the demand of enterprise-level corporations.
End Users
With a common API, developers can install similar interfaces making it easier for users to adopt new programs. In addition, the user-friendly interface results in greater operator engagement, effectiveness, and productivity.
