Administering a Wireless Domain

Administering Wireless Domains

Connect provides the ability to maintain the list of wireless domains and SMS Aggregators in the area called “Wireless Domains” of the User section in the system’s Administration. This area allows administrators to:

  • Import the list of Wireless Domains provided by the FCC
  • Create a New Wireless Domain
  • Delete a Wireless Domain

Importing a List of Wireless Domains

Connect enables the Administrator to import multiple wireless domains from an external URL, which provides the list of wireless domains in an XML format.

In Wireless Domains window:

  1. Click Import.

  2. In the Wireless Domain import window, enter the URL for wireless domain XML and click OK. The XML file needs to be well formed and in a predefined format. Refer to http://ftp.fcc.gov/Bureaus/CGB/DomainNames/DomainNames.xml for a sample wireless domain XML file.

Connect creates the list of wireless domains available in the XML file and ignores the domains that already exist in the Connect database. Connect will display the list of wireless domains that are successfully imported.

Note: When upgrading from prior releases, ensure that there is no e-mail client (in EMAIL_CLIENT_MASTER table) with id=4 because Connect adds a new e-mail client with id=4 for short text content.

Creating a Wireless Domain

In the Wireless Domains window:

  1. Click Create a New wireless Domain.
  2. In the Wireless Domain window, enter the details of the wireless domain and click OK.
Note: The wireless domain name must be unique.

Connect implicitly sets the following for any wireless domain.

    • Content type for the wireless domain is set to 4 (Short Text).
    • MPA support is disabled.
Note: Connect does not allow you to modify the wireless domain name.

Deleting a Wireless Domain

In the Wireless Domains window, click the trash icon adjacent to the wireless domain that you intend to delete. Connect prompts the user to confirm the delete operation. When the user confirms the delete operation, Connect updates the content type of the wireless domain to 2 (representing HTML).

Note: Connect will not delete the wireless domain internally. However, the domain will no longer be listed in the Wireless Domains window because the content type is updated to 2.
